At board joints the rails are lined up horizontally and vertically, and then soldered to brass screws that go through the fibreboard and into the plywood below.
Plain track is laid in much the same way as turnouts, except that feed wires are only needed when a stub section is isolated by a turnout frog. (As I am using DCC I only use the Tortoise switches to control the frogs; no power routeing.). The density of specialwork on this layout means there is no length of plain track that is longer than about 3 ft, and as I am soldering the metal railjoiners in place a good feed should be obtained from the turnout wiring alone.
