Weighting cars 2

Even after replacing the steel flat weights supplied with the kits with (denser) lead and including the metal wheelsets, my coke hoppers were still much lighter than NMRA recommendations. So I added small lead shot into the wedge shaped recesses at each end, as shown here, and in the middle between the hopper doors. This is no. 13 (UK) split shot for fishing lines - not much over 1mm diameter.
This was simply poured into the recesses, shaped to avoid contact with wheels and a few drops of liquid glue applied as one would for ballasting track. When the glue was dry it was painted flat black, although it is hidden from normal view.
Annoyingly the cars are still a tad light; they are nearly 3 1/4 oz. but for their 5inch body length they should be 3 1/2 oz.
