When set for about 24 hours the steel pegs are removed with a pair of pliers and cleaned and dried ready for next time. The grease acts as release agent and prevents corrosion. I tried aluminium rods but the concrete seemed to like to stick to them, making them hard to reuse. These slabs will bridge a couple of foot gap with no problem - the 6 foot radius slabs are 4'6" long and at one end of my layout I had two them of acting as bridges with supports at each end and one place in the middle.
