When the shaft is turned the cam drives the magnet up to sit flat under the plastic cover and close under the track. The assembly just beyond the red cam is a combination bottom stop for the magnet arm and bearing for the shaft.
My boards are total 20mm thick and with the stop fitted to the underside of the board gives a magnet movement of about 15mm. This seems to work well.
