Weight trial

Weight trial

9 Sep 2012. As I'm beginning to fix a lot of stuff in the bottom of the boat I did a trial float today. Basically I marked the waterline at bow and stern then got all the control gear, motors, props, battery, bags of fittings and some weight approximately equivalent to the superstructure, etc, and distibuted them in the right sort of places in the boat while it was floating in a few inches of water in the bath. As I'd expected she was bow down, even with weight added to the stern to get that to the line. Moving the battery aft seemed to be enough to get close, so I've had to do a bit of work to accomodate that change.

Originally the battery was directly under the forward deck opening (under the superstructure) but as I had rather expected that put this hefty weight too near the bow. It will now be pushed sternward about 80mm after being lowered through the hole. This also means I have a bit less space for the control gear though it still fits reasonably well.
